Although it was commonly accepted that the Republic of the Congo was contaminated by landmines as a consequence of the spill over of conflict from Angola, the extent of contamination was never clear. NPA has over the years, placed increased focus on the so called Article 5 Completion Initiative, engaging in countries with medium to limited contamination
NPA was requested by the authorities in the Republic of the Congo to assist with Non-Technical and limited Technical Survey in order to confirm or discredit any contamination in country. NPAs Humanitarian Disarmament team in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was thus tasked to survey the area.
After surveying the area, the NPA programme was phased out in November 2012.
